Who are the Wiggles?

ANTHONY FIELD – BLUE WIGGLE

Anthony was born in Sydney, Australia in 1963 and still lives in the “Harbour City”.  He grew up in sunny Lalor Park in Sydney’s outer western suburbs.  Anthony is the youngest of seven children (four brothers and three sisters). Anthony was taught how to play the violin from Sister Dominic at St Bernadette’s Lalor Park. He learned to play guitar from his brother John and by listening to Elvis and Rolling Stones records.  Anthony was a member of Australia’s regular army from 1982 until 1985. He was an infantry soldier and a piper with the 5/7 Royal Australian Regiment at Holesworthy in the 1990’s.

Anthony, his brothers Paul and John, and purple Wiggle Jeff were members of the 80’s chart-topping group The Cockroaches.  He attended Macquarie University Institute of Early Childhood Learning, where he obtained his Diploma in teaching in 1990.  In Australia, Anthony continues to star as the presenter in the top rated television show ‘RSPCA Animal Rescue’. The program follows Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) inspectors and veterinary staff as they rescue, protect and prevent cruelty to animals.

Anthony loves The Wiggles music and the camaraderie of the group on tour.  He says, “There is no better audience than the one we play to.” Anthony is married to his wife Miki and they have three young children, daughters Lucia and Maria, and son Antonio.

MURRAY COOK – RED WIGGLE

Murray was born in Cowra, Australia in 1960.  He is the eldest of three children, with a younger brother and sister.  He attended school in Cowra, Orange and Caringbah in the state of New South Wales.

He started playing guitar at age eleven.  As a teenager, he performed in amateur musicals such as ‘the Sound of Music’ and played in school bands.  During the 1980’s he worked in the public service and played in various bands such as The Finger Guns, who released three singles.

Murray studied early childhood education at Macquarie University, where he met Anthony and Greg, and graduated in 1990.  He was a music teacher at Kegworth Public School in Leichhardt in 1991, a tutor in early childhood education, and a pre-school teacher at Macquarie University in 1992.  He has performed as a Wiggle since 1991 and has loved every minute of it.  “Children are the best audience!”  He loves listening to music, seeing live bands and spending time with his family.  Murray has appeared as a regular on the popular Australian music quiz show ‘Spicks and Specks’.  He lives in Sydney and is married with two children, a son and daughter.

JEFF FATT – PURPLE WIGGLE

Jeff was born in 1953 in Casino Northern, Australia and has one brother and two sisters.  His family ran a department store in Casino called The Kwong Sing Emporium.  Jeff was a keen surfer and spent most of his youth either on a surfboard or playing piano with brother Hilton, who played bass guitar.  Apart from helping with the family business, Jeff’s first job was bagging groceries at Grace Bros Store in Sydney.

Jeff obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Design.  He moved to Sydney, where he set up a PA Business with his brother.  He would rent out sound systems to most of the local bands while he played piano in Sydney’s best rockabilly band, The Roadmasters.  While playing for The Roadmasters, he met Anthony and his brothers who would regularly attend his performances.  Jeff eventually joined their pop band The Cockroaches. The band members told Jeff that the food was better at the university functions where they played, so he was lured by the promise of great desserts.

The Cockroaches made the Australian music charts and toured the country.  Eventually the band dismembered and everyone went their separate ways. Later down the road Jeff was asked by Anthony to come down to the studio to help him record a music album for children.  Jeff was renovating his house at the time and asked, “How long will it take?”  Eighteen years later, he has his answer!

Jeff now lives in a beachside suburb of Sydney, which he still renovates in between surfing and skiing.  He loves the music of Ray Charles and most soul music from the 60’s.  He enjoys traveling and touring with The Wiggles and in between all of his activity he gets a lot of rest!

SAM MORAN – YELLOW WIGGLE

Sam grew up in Wagga Wagga, but he moved to Sydney to study Classical Voice and Music Education at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music under Robert Allman AM OBE.  While he was there, he was able to experience the use of music in classrooms and the way young children respond to music in their development.

Sam’s first appearance for The Wiggles was in 1998 touring Australia, New Zealand, and the USA as the host of ‘The Dorothy The Dinosaur Show.’  He also found a challenge providing additional vocals for the Spanish and Taiwanese Wiggles. In November 2006 Sam became the Yellow Wiggle, replacing Greg Page who he had understudied more than 150 times.  Sam feels honored to pull on the yellow shirt and loves being the yellow Wiggle!

During his first two years as a Wiggle, The Wiggles won two ARIA Awards.  One award was for “Pop Go The Wiggles’ (2007) and the other was for “You Make Me Feel Dancing” (2008).  Sam is especially proud that his contributions to The Wiggles has allowed for continued success and that the audience has been so welcoming.

Sam married in 2006 to Lyn, who he met while touring the US with the Dorothy The Dinosaur Show.

PAUL “PADDY” PADDICK – CAPTAIN FEATHERSWORD

Paul (“Paddy”) has a Bachelor of Music in Classical Voice from the South Australian College of Advanced Education and a Graduate Diploma in Performing Arts from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA).  While at WAAPA he performed in over 15 plays with leading rolls including MacBeth, The Greeks, and Lady Windemers Fan.
