Luxury Vacation to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks

Moose, WY

Here’s a great way to visit Yellowstone and the Jackson Hole area of Wyoming, combining luxury travel with seeing some of the most beautiful scenery and wildlife this country has to offer.

Some folks may want to fly in directly to Jackson Hole Airport in Wyoming to begin their vacation.  The airport is located right in front of the majestic Grand Teton mountain range and is a short 20-minute ride to downtown Jackson.  (Remember, Jackson Hole is the area, whereas the town’s name is Jackson.  Many make the mistake of calling the town “Jackson Hole.”)

If you’d like to add a little variety to your vacation or can’t arrange a flight into Jackson Hole airport, try flying in to nearby Bozeman, Montana or Idaho Falls, Idaho.

We flew into Idaho Falls on Allegiant airlines, a budget flyer that hooks you up to smaller, local airports.  The fares with Allegiant are reasonable and the airports they serve are considerably less crowded than major metropolitan airports.  It is easy to rent a car at the Idaho Falls airport, hop in, and get to your destination in minutes.

Days 1-2

Arrive at Idaho Falls airport.  Pick up rental car and drive to Destinations Inn for first evening.  Spend Day 2 visiting local attractions and hiking in the area. www.destinationsinn.com

Days 3-4

Drive to Jackson Hole Wyoming.  There are two possible routes.  If you plan to return to Idaho Falls for your return flight, consider taking one route going to Jackson and another route for your return to Idaho Falls. To go to Jackson, follow the Snake River all the way from Idaho Falls to Jackson by staying on Hwy 26.  When you’re ready to return to Idaho Falls, take Hwy 22 over the Teton Pass.  Obviously, you may take these suggested routes in reverse order or, take Hwy 22 which is shorter, for both routes.

After passing through Jackson, head out to Moran Junction, gateway to Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park. Visit these parks during your stay at Luton’s Teton Cabins.  Spend at least two days at these wonderful cabins, or longer.  You may want to stock up on food at a supermarket in Jackson if you plan to cook your own meals at your log cabin.  The cabins have all the cookware, appliances and utensils you’ll need. www.tetoncabins.com

Days 5-6

Drive from Moran area back to the Town of Jackson.  Stay at the Rusty Parrot Lodge and Spa www.rustyparrot.com  Make sure you eat at the Wild Sage restaurant (307-733-2000) and get a massage or facial at the Body Sage Spa (307-733-4455).

Days 7-8

It’s just a short hop over to the Snow King Resort www.snowking.com at the foot of the Snow King mountain, where you’ll want to book a room, either in the hotel or at the Grand View Lodge  www.grandviewjacksonhole.com   Schedule a rafting trip with Jackson Hole Whitewater www.jhww.com during your stay.  Also, don’t forget to book a massage or facial at Olga’s Day Spa (call 307-734-2468) and schedule breakfast, lunch or dinner at Hayden’s Post Restaurant (call 307-733-5200), both of which are located in the Snow King Resort.
