This was the scene last night when I took my family to the HP Pavilion in San Jose to see “The Wiggles go Bananas!” new tour.  The show starts with each of the wiggles coming out on stage to thunderous applause as they go right into some classic songs.  During the singing they mix it up with acrobats doing flips, summersaults, cartwheels, handstands, and other fun stunts.

I had a chance after the show to ask Anthony (Blue) a few questions:

Matthew: Welcome to California.  My family got to see your show.  Great job.  My kids loved it.  How do you like California? Is Australia the place to live?

Anthony: Oh great! Yes, I like California, but it’s pretty busy.  Nice beaches, weather, scenery.. but yes, I like to live in Australia.

Matthew: When you travel does you family come with you?

Anthony: No.  With the buses we have, there are no seatbelts and with the turns and such, it would be hard on them.  When we get breaks we try and meet up somewhere.  We recently spent a few weeks together in Monterey.

Matthew: The 4 colors you use – Blue, Red, Purple, and Yellow.   Purple isn’t a primary color, how did you come up with these and who got to wear what color?

Anthony: Well, it was a simple start.  We were at a Sydney market and saw the shirts and each person picked one out.  I initially wore green, but ended up with blue as you see now.

Matthew: Who comes up with your songs and choreography? Do you do them yourselves or do you have help from outside third parties?

Anthony: Over time the group has come up with all our own music.  My brother John has helped with some of the songs.  We’ve had 3 choreographers over the time we’ve been doing this.  We’re honored to have ?? right now as he’s a trainer for the Olympics and has been helping us a lot.

Matthew: Having travelled around a lot, do you speak any other languages?

Anthony: I don’t.  Australia only has the one language, so there hasn’t been a need to learn any others like you would if you lived in Europe or some other countries.

Matthew: Do you have any other hobbies?

Anthony:  I like gymnastics.  I do the rings, bars, and some other gymnastic routines.  As well as being with family, going to the beach, boating…

Matthew: You are on the television show ‘RSPCA Animal Rescue’.  Do you have any pets of your own?

Anthony: I used to raise terriers.  I had 3 of them, but when I got married my wife was allergic so we gave them away.  I’d like to eventually have pets when our children get older.  Probably go the Rescue and get a dog there.
