Hotel Lord Byron“Hospitality is like a beautiful flower…it needs plenty of care.” In
As we ascended the steps to enter this elegant, five-story White House, replete with spectacular terraces and rooms that open to awning-covered balconies, we sensed that we were about to experience old-world hospitality in a delightfully placid atmosphere. After receiving a pleasant welcome and hotel introduction from the friendly staff, we noticed the comfortable book-lined waiting area behind the counter where stunning portrait paintings decorated the walls. Once in the room, however, we were treated to a Thirties-style art-deco design that featured portraits of famous actresses adorning our walls. The dark wood furnishings here are highly lacquered, gleaming with round or rounded surfaces, round knobs, and thin cylindrical legs. Glossy, one-foot-high dark-wood base-moulding surrounded our room met by a magenta carpet that gave the room a regal feeling. These rich colors were tastefully complimented by an upholstered magenta headboard where the stylized HLB monogram appeared above our pillows. The walls were covered with cushiony fabric, matched by floor-to-ceiling drapes of the same material, and accented by magenta drapery. An off-white coffered ceiling, with indirect lighting provided a comfortable, soothing radiance from above. Our room offered a walk-in closet with a sensor-activated ceiling light. This area also featured a hotel safe for our use. Behind a gleaming, lacquered pocket door, our bathroom offered a spacious yet convenient arrangement of all the essentials, including an extra-large square-shaped shower head over the bath tub. Here we lounged in a truly elegant
place, unwinding from a busy day in a beautiful setting. Throughout the
hotel we found numerous instances of attention to detail, ranging from
crisp linens and luxurious towels throughout our suite, to a tasty tray
of assorted candies in our room upon our welcome, to the elegant flower
arrangements throughout the hotel and dining areas. Our room came
equipped with a large-screen wall-mounted satellite television, writing
desk with wi-fi capability and electric-powered window blinds. Our
suite opened onto two balconies, affording us a magnificent view of
cypress and orange trees nearby along with views of some of the villas
in the surrounding neighborhood. After a very peaceful evening of rest in our super comfortable king-size bed, we awoke to a sumptuous buffet breakfast served in the incomparable Sapori del Lord Byron restaurant. Here we enjoyed homemade croissants and bread, gourmet preserves, natural cereals, several flavors of yogurt, a number of tasty fresh fruits, scrambled eggs, hard-boiled eggs, and bacon. Also available were freshly squeezed Sicilian orange, grapefruit and tangerine juices along with Italian coffees such as creamy cappuccino and espresso. The Sapori is a first-class dining establishment, offering stylish décor where art lovers may dine in an elegant setting that feels as if one might be dining in the Galleria Borghese just down the street. Similarly, the Il Salotto Lounge provides a warm yet refined atmosphere for leisurely relaxation or stimulating conversation. We enjoyed one of our finest meals in Italy at the Sapori, a dining experience you should not miss whenever you are in the area. Be sure to read our review in this section. One of the goals of our visit to Rome was to see the luxurious and incomparable Villa Borghese, a museum featuring the exquisite sculptures of Bernini along with masterpieces from Titian, Raphael, Cranach, Rubens, Caravaggio and others. Though we had secured our reservations online beforehand, the always helpful concierge at the Hotel Lord Byron will surely help you make the necessary arrangements as they offered to do for us . In any event, be sure to book your reservation for the Villa Borghese in advance. Since the weather was beautiful on the day we planned to visit this world-famous museum, we opted to take a 20-minute walk from the hotel through the lovely park. From this, we realized our location at the Hotel Lord Byron provided the best of both worlds: proximity to the bustling Eternal City’s main attractions and the opportunity to relax in a tranquil, exclusive environment. For so many reasons—ideal location, private elegance, superb service, artistic ambiance, state-of-the-art amenities, and a world-reputed gourmet restaurant famous for its haute cuisine and delicious Italian specialties—the Hotel Lord Byron is sure to provide you with a timeless experience in the elegant atmosphere of a unique patrician villa.
